We have received concerns from residents about the continued spread of Dyer’s woad throughout the community. This is the yellow-flowering invasive weed that appears on many of our roadsides, vacant lots, and hillsides in late spring.
Dyer’s woad does not remain confined to one property. Once it produces seed, it can spread to neighboring lots, roadsides, common areas, and surrounding hillsides.
Early identification and treatment are much more effective than waiting until the plants are mature.
Below are identification and treatment information. We will redistribute again early next spring, when the plants can still be controlled before they produce seed. We ask every property owner—including owners of undeveloped lots—to inspect their property and take action promptly.
